Thumbnails don't display picture (skimbell) - 11/30/2007 7:00 AM PST

When I select INSERT -> PICTURE -> FROM FILE the screen displays my photos, but the thumbnails on those photos are all the same generic Microsoft icon, rather than an actual thumbnail of the photo. The thumbnails display correctly when viewed in Windows Explorer. The only place where there is a problem is in Expression Web. I'm using Windows Vista (YUCK) I've seen other references to this problem on other sites, including some where this problem occurs in other programs, (including Explorer), but have yet to find a resolution that works, or even a cause.

- 0I have this problem but worse. Initially picture thumbnails in the Expression Web insert picture dialog box would not display. Now NO picture icons display on my whole computer, or attached drives. I have of course checked the Folder options, and also the performance settings, all OK there.
If I hit F5 then I see the real thumbnails for a millisecond, but then revert back to the generic icon. This is true of GIFs and JPEGs, but video and other thumbnails are OK.
This problem definitely only cropped up when I installed Expression Web, I did not install any other graphics (or other) programs, and Expression Web was the first program I installed on a new Dell laptop (it was prelaoded with Office).
This is, EXTREMELY annoying, and am not happy with this problem being ignored.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Has uninstalling and reinstalling EW worked?
Note that initially some thumbnails would show icons, others the thumbnails, but over time all live thumbnails have turned to generic icons. No work arounds in various plaves have worked, although they did fix other folder problems, such as remembering the folder views. - 0This is a known issue with EW in Vista and it has been bugged.
Unfortunately the only workaround is to disable UAC and then run EW as administrator, which I
absolutely "do not" recommend. - 0I use Windows XP Pro and I have the same issue with thumbnail pics within EW. Not a huge issue however it does slow me down a bit and is distracting when I'm trying to work. any info would be appreciated.
Pccoach - 0When you go to insert an image, when the Picture dialog displays, click the down arrow by the page icon right under the red X. On the dropdown click "Preview"
Then when you click on an image name, a preview will show in the right half of the Picture dialog

Concerning EW, Vista and pictures that cannot be seen. Seems like when you have openend a website in EW, "WORKGROUP" is added to the searchpath and the pictures can no longer be seen in EW.
What does "it has been bugged" mean? Is there an update for Vista or EW that fix this?
Disabled UAC and ran EW as administrator but no change. Please explain this solution in more detail. - 0I would like to know how to get rid of the stupid 'workgroup' default, besides not being able to see the thumbnails of the pictures you are trying to insert (which is a BIG, BIG flaw) it doesn't update immediately if you add files to the website....
I also disabled UAC and run as administrator...where is the real fix? It does not give you a red x it gives you a generic icon....useless.
