- Hi David,
First of all, let me say that we recalled build 2092 and brought out 2096 after that. I'd really suggest upgrading to that newer build because there were several fixes in that which are not in 2092.
At first I thought maybe it was your rendering engine, but I just tested on 2096, with downloaded NEF files from the D3x, and it worked fine under both Manufacturer and Apple engines. Whatever your rendering engine is, you might try switching it to the other, and then rebuilding the items. See if that doesn't work.
If it doesn't, email us at xmforum at microsoft.com, and we'll create a support incident for you.

- Hi Anita,Thanks for your reply. I've now upgraded to build 2096 (Why was I not informed of the update via "Check for Updates" when I manually did this ?). Are you expecting users to go and visit the EM site on a regular basis just to check they have the current build ?The new version now renders the Nikon D3x Raw file in Media View, but only at the same size as the largest thumbnail view. I have "create full screen previews unticked, as I am trying to force EM2 to read the full raw file (which it can do with D3 files). Any suggestions as to what I can do to get EM2 to read the Raw file at full res ?As an aside, using the Apple rendering engine is a bad idea... as it will not reflect any changes made to the Raw file in Nikon Processing software like Capture NX2. The image looks really flat when rendered in Apples engine.Thank you.Best wishes,David
- Hi David,
We had a bit of a situation with SP2, where we replaced one SP2 with another, due to problems. The update detects SP1, but cannot detect SP2, build 2092. You shouldn't have to go manually check for the latest version. This was a special case.
The D3x files i have show at full resolution in SP2 regardless of the rendering engine I use. What happens if you go to Media view and show at Fit zooming? Is it clear or pixelated?

Anita Oakley - Hello,
I seem to be having issues with my Dx3 NEF files as well. EM2 seems to get bogged down and handles the Dx3 NEF files extremely slow. In turn this boggs down my entire computer as well. I am using a Mac 2 x 2.8 Quad Core Intel Xeon runnning OS10.5.7.
This issue does not arise when handling Canon CR2 files from a 1DS Mark III.
Hoping someone can advise and provide a reason as well as a remedy.
Thank you,
Mike - Hi Mike,
I don't have a Mac here to test, so have asked one of my colleagues to do that tomorrow. As far as an explanation - if they aren't supported on the Mac, it would be because neither the manufacturer's importer shipped nor the Apple importer support the D3x. We rely on one of those to import RAW files. In fact, if you have preferences set to Apple, you might try manufacturer and see if SP2 updated that.
Nita - Hello,
I tested NEF D3x images in Expression Media 2.0.2 (2096) and didn't see any issues when viewing these types of images using the Apple or Manufacturer engine for processing RAW files. I'm testing on 10.5.7 on an Intel iMac.
-JP - Hello,It has been a few months since I received the above thread, but I am still having issues with my NEF files from a Nikon D3x and Expression Media 2.0.2. I am using EM2 on a Mac Pro 10.6.1 (this issue was occurring prior to Snow Leopard as well)My issue is that Expression Media 2.0.2 handles the Nikon raw NEF files very slowly. When I scroll through the large thumbnail (Scale to Fit image) it takes about three seconds to go to the next image. When you are looking at thousands of images, this time adds up.Conversely, when I view Canon raw CR2 files and scroll through the large thumbnail (Scale to Fit image) it advances to the next image instantaneously.I would love to resolve this issue to save time. Thank you in advance for your help. If anyone else is experiencing this issue, I would love to hear from you as well.Mike
- The problem with RAW files is that they have to be converted into images on the fly. So the rendering can only be as fast as the rendering engine. Unfortunately, the Manufacturer's engine doesn't work on Snow Leopard, so you can't switch to it. If you are still on 2092, make sure you upgrade to 2096. If the files are local, they will work faster than they do on a network. Other than that, I can't think of anything you can do to speed things up.
Regards,
Anita
