I just downloaded the trial of EE2 since WME9 keeps lagging and crashing(i also ordered a full version  thinking it would be faster and better than WME9) when i try to encode movies to synch with my zune. tried batch encoding setting a general profile to Hardware Zune and lt the program run. My problem is that i set the programs to encode multiple movies and after  some of the movies have been encoded and the work is cancelled, the program deletes everything including the movies that already have been encoded. So my question is Why does it do that and how to prevent it.

Did you remove your original files from the imported list before you clicked Encode again? If you had done a File...New Job, then Expression Encoder would have assumed that this was a new set of files so shouldn't have deleted any previously encoded files.

If you didn't do a File New Job then Encoder assumes that this is still the same set of files you want encoded and if you had removed files from the list then Encoder assumes you don't want them anymore. (If you'd have left them in and just added more files to the list, then Encoder should be clever to realize the first files have already been encoded so won't encode them again, it will just encode the new files).

We realize our workflow could be a little clearer here so we have a bug in our database so we can hopefully improve things in the next version.
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Dean.

You're right it does delete files that have finished encoding if you cancel before it's all finished. I'd agree that does seem a little strange. I'll enter a bug in our database and we'll try to get this changed for our next version. Thanks for the report.

As for your other question, we tend to favour quality over speed by default, however you can change this if you want to speed things up. The easiest way to speed things up is to go to the Advanced Codec Settings area and from the Presets combox box change it to Fast and things should encode a little quicker.

    Regards
    Dean.

Thanks for your response Dean. the answer is no i didnt remove the files nor did i select a new job from the file menu. but before i restarted the encoding process i went to the output folder (i figured i got some movies encoded let me move them to another folder)   but the files were already gone. The programs deletes everything in the job folder except the settings, when you cancel a encoding job.  One more question, is there a faster way to encode for zune i get good quality with only one pass using WME9.. Thanks again for your response

    Hello Dean:

I know this is not probably part of the same problem but i figured i let you know to help out and see if we can find a solution.

I just ran into another problem with EE2, I re-encoded some movies to the 1920x1080 format.

The problem comes when (so far since i dont have 1920x1080 videos besides the ones i have encoded) i try to import these HD videos back into Encoder 2. The program crashes when it tries to show the thumbnails. The only information i have is that (based on the error log) the Encoder.graphic.user.interface.dll was the faulty module.

Anything above 720x480, (and 720x380) makes the program crash when imported into it.
besides all the errors here are the good things going on.

1). the movies play fine, in windows media and any media player i have installed,
2). the movies also stream into the xbox 360 from my ReadyNAS flawlessly
3). there is some skipping in the video at that resolution.
Also, I removed all my codecs and decoder from my computer to make sure there was no compatibility error but i still go the same result when importing the files back into the program.

On another noted: These 1080 videos encoded with Expression cannot be burned into disk as a dvd movie because they turn out distorted. I used the Vista DVD maker when i ran into the problem, then i figured i could use a different application but Nero also shows the videos distorted after they are imported. Which lead me to believe that there is something wrong with EE2.

Hope this helps with future versions.

That's strange I don't even recognize the name of that dll that's crashing. Have you also tried going into the compatibility tab under Tools...Options and turning off filters there? Do these 1920 x 1080 files play back ok in Windows Media Player?

    Hello Dean.

I re checked  the error log and i found the correct name of the faulty dll.

    Problem signature

    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

    Application Name: EncoderUI.exe

    Application Version: 2.1.1216.0

    Application Timestamp: 49079134

    Fault Module Name: Microsoft.Expression.Encoder.Utilities.dll

    Fault Module Version: 2.1.1216.0

    Fault Module Timestamp: 490790f2

    Exception Code: c0000005

    Exception Offset: 00173a10

    OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3

    Locale ID: 1033

I did what you told me and turned all the filters off and the program didnt crash, then i checked only the Expression encoder filter and still the same good results so im thinking one of the 3rd party  codecs must be doing something.  The only 3rd party codec i have installed are the "Combined community codec Package" an dthe Nero codec (those i know cause problems so i dont use them).
On teh other issue.. is the anyway to attach files here. i would like to show you how the movies encoded in EE2 turn out after you make DVD with them in DVD Maker and Nero. here is my email alucard_47@hotmail.com.

    thanks you for your help.

Yes, sounds like it was one of those codecs. I don't believe you can attach files to a post here, but you can always post them up to something like http://skydrive.live.com and then post a link.

    Dean.

here is a link. to the Nero file import screen for DVD burning. Unfortunately DVD Maker doesnt show previews of the dvd, but like i said, the movies come out the same way.
