I'm an old customer of Iview and I used it since years. Few days ago I bought a NAS (Qnap TS-109II)  and the performance of the program were terribile. I tough that upgrading to EM 2 it would resolve my problem, but even if there is a little improvement (10%?), the sw is still un-usable in production world. (long waiting time for every operation).

The catalog is not so big (about 300 mb, 32.000 pictures,  only CanonRaw and most jpg), Nas has 1 Gbit eth connection and a  brand new 1 Tb fast disk.

Another weird issue with EM, is that half of the folder's names in Catalog View are not displayed (with Iview it was ok)
    See screenshot:

So, before to spend 360 US$ !! (because this is the price buying from Italy, instead 199 in USA !!) I would like to know if there are chance to have an improvement in performance using a NAS.

    Thanks in advance
    Sandro

    Hello Sandro,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. We have had some reports about performance when connected to a network share - whether NAS or simply another machine. In general they are caused by the need to poll the network resource for files as you work in the catalog. We do that so that we can report whether media items are online or not.

The best workaround, assuming that you don't need access to the media at the time is to disconnect from the network drive while you are working.

We have asked the developers for an "Offline Mode" for the next version. They are also committed to improving performance in all areas in version 3.

    Hope this helps,
    Anita Oakley
