Con rispostaExpression Studio incompatible with Windows 7?

Just tried installing Expression Studio on the Windows 7 Beta without any success - the setup program hangs after extracting, right as the main frame begins to show. I also tried the Expression Web trial download for kicks - same deal.

Is this a known issue? Is there any workaround?

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Wich Office version? I did install Office 2007 Enterprise with no problems at all. It is running very well... Try to run the installation (setup) as administrator. Windows 7 has pretty much the same features of Vista Ultimate.

    Good lock!

I'm having the same issue.  I just installed Windows 7 in a vmware virtual machine and whenever I start up the setup program for Expression Studio 2 it hangs on the main frame, just as you described.

Same here.  I've tried Blend and the full Studio install.  I've had to forcibly shut down the VM about 10 times.  I've talked to colleagues that have installed just fine into Win7 on physical machines (non-VM), but I haven't been succesful on a VM.

    For what it's worth;
    • I was also using VMware (not mentioned in my original post).
    • I tried several things but could not get it to install.
    • As a test I tried switching to the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and that worked fine.

Originally I installed Windows 7 x64 in a HP Pavilion dv5000 laptop, but unfortunatelly there were no drivers for the sound card, and HP was very bad at giving suport for x64 OS's, they just told me they do not have them. I notice the Os works faster and probably Web Studio installs in Win 7 x64.

I guess we have to wait for Microsoft to come out with the solution.

Ditto here. Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000) in a VMWare 6.5 Workstation. Office 2007, Visual Studio 2008...all go fine. Expression Studio or Expression Blend hang on the empty Setup frame. Feedback on Connect.Microsoft.com says the issue is closed. Barf...

I had this happen as well on the Windows 7 RC x64.  Two things I did, either of which may have resolved the problem.

    1) I had an existing Restart from an install that I had not yet done.  Not sure if this was hanging the Expression install.

    2)  In the Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows Features On or Off I added checks for the WCF HTTP Activation and Non-HTTP Activation in the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 settings.  I couldn't recall if this was needed for Expression, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

After re-starting my computer, I retried the Expression 2 Studio install and this time it completed fine.

    I have the same problem.
I was able to install Expression Studio 2, but when I started any one of the programs, I was given a error message about licensing, then I uninstalled the product, but when I tried to install the installation didn't finished, had a fatal error, after looking at the log file I found:

1: InstallLicenses: ERROR: Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301
1: InstallLicenses: ERROR: Failed to close SLDL. HRESULT: 80070057

    again license error.

Criley002 I already have those features installed and didn't helped.

The same problem happens when I tried to install the products individually.

Anyone an update now on this thread?

I downloaded Expression Studio Trial because I really want to try and study that program, but currently Windows 7 is on the machine that meets the further system requirements.

Should I - with the experiences you all have and show on this thread - direct Windows 7 RC to the recycle bin and install Expression Studio under a more reliable OS for now?

    Thanks!

I have installed Microsoft Expression Studio 2 on Windows 7 RC x64 twice now. Ran into the same issues you guys are seeing and more. I also enabled the features listed in step 2 of Criley's post and found that it worked thereafter. Making sure there is no pending restart is a good idea too.

Just wanted to confirm this is the solution for anybody out there still wondering. I bet the gold version of windows 7 will handle this automatically, but they are making some things tough on release candidates so people will buy it when it comes out rather than waiting for their RCs to expire.

Also, I'd suggest running the install as admin, and disabling UAC (at least temporarily, I've done it permanently myself). That should cover all the bases =D

I use Windows 7 RC and installed Expression Studio 2 without any hitch at all.  Worked perfectly!  I did have UAC disabled but that's for personal reasons.

On Windows 7 Professional RTM, the Expression Studio 3 installer starts out very slow and eventually fails after accepting the license agreement. Does anyone have a solution for that one?

    Thanks in advance.

I read somewhere else on this forum that there is an issue with the display drivers not updating the install window properly. The sugestion is to minimise the install window so Windows dosen't have to update the contents of the window while the product installs.

Expression 3 installed OK for me on Windows 7 RTM 64 bit but messed up the computer requiring a system restore to correct things. Expression 2 works just fine.
