    Hello,

I'm trying to output 5.1 channel audio in Expression Encoder 2 SP1 and cannot find it as an option in the audio output options. I saw a past question where this was requested as a feature. Has this been added in SP1 or is it still missing?

In Windows Media Encoder 9 I'm able to output 5.1 channel WMV files using 5.1 channel WAV files as input. I'd be interested in doing this in Expression Encoder 2 if it's possible. Thanks for any help!

Expression Encoder 2 SP1 doesn't support 5.1 output.  Rest assured that we are considering this for a future version.

I don't mean to stir the pot here but...

"Considering" adding features of a codec is to be expected from a 3rd party software solution. Since you guys (Microsoft) made the codec, it would only make sense to support ALL of its features and options.

So it shouldn't be a question of if we should add this or that, but when.

p.s. im obviously no developer so i don't actually know how the whole process works, excuse me if i come off as condesending. It wasn't my intention.

Been a while since I've been around here..

Anyhow, if you have even a little programming knowledge you can make a quick command line encoder that uses Expression, set all the settings as you desire (IntelliSense is a godsend) and use a Windows Media Profile that includes a preset 5.1 setting.  5.1 works flawlessly with the core of Expression Encoder, just not in the application itself.  I have reencoded many movies in WVC1 / WMA10 Pro 5.1 for streaming to Xbox and it works fine.

I have to agree with this, considering this a feature? Really? Then there is actually no reason to move from Windows Media Encoder 9 (which also comes in a 64bit application) to Microsoft Expression 2SP1...

Speaking of 64bit computing, why wouldn't there be 64bit versions of this application anyways?

    From EE 3 top Features

    Multichannel Audio

Import media with Dolby Digital multichannel audio, select from multiple audio tracks such as language versions and encode for multichannel WMA Pro.

I am a total newb to WPF and expression studio but I am familiar with actionscripting in flash. Would you be willing to give me some assistance with trying to write an application like you have for encoding 5.1 audio files through expression encoder? I would greatly appreciate it as this has been a sore spot for me for a long time since it seems to be extraordinarily difficult to get one microsoft application to support another (in my case it has always been trying to archive television shows recorded with windows to be encoded to a smaller size and played back on a windows machine and/or a zune). I currently own both version 1 and 2 of the expression studio.
