Questionpictures not going to the proper files once its posted wants to go to my lap top instead of the root directory

    when i post my site to the web server the files are ther but when you open the page on the internet i get little X's and no pictures as an artist this defeats the purpose also my tabs to direct you to the other pages dont show up my web hoster says they are not going to the root directory????? lost me any sugestions

    Our crystal ball is cracked, and therefore is not working. Without seeing your site on the web, we'd only be making a SWAG as to what's causing the problem.

    Some things to check (and at a guess since you've not provided a link to the site these pointers may or may not apply to you)

    • You need to upload the files to the correct and matching folder names from local to remote machine, so if pics are in an "images" folder on local computer, the "images" folder with those files needs to be published. 
    • On Linux servers, case sensitivity is an issue (caps versus lower case e.g. "FILENAME.jpg", "Filename.jpg" and "filename.jpg" are all different files as far as linux is concerned, but on Windows servers, it doesn't care about upper/lower case.
    • If you use the "publish" tool in EW, it should transfer all the files correctly, maintaining the correct paths and folder names.

    • If you're publishing manually with an external FTP, then you need to make sure all the files are transferring to the correct folder names and file names.

    • Check also, that you're using the correct file transfer "mode" i.e. Binary (for such things as images, movies, PDF files) or ASCII (for iles like HTML, or any "web page" type file e.g. server side scripts or Javascript files)
    • Your FTP program probably has three modes - AUTO, ASCII only or BINARY only - make sure you select AUTO, and that the "Ascii" file types are listed (under the options for the particular application) such as *html, *.htm, *.asp, *.js, *.php etc.
    • You also need to check your hyperlinks and that they are pointing back to the correct pages.


    Hope these issues might sort out the problem.
