Search Server 2008, File Share Indexing or Searching Issues
- Hi,We've got WSS 3.0 and Search Server 2008 (Express) installed on a Win 2008 server.I've set up a Content Source for a file share that is on a different server, but in the same domain. The "Default content access account" that the index service uses has "Modify" access to the file share. The crawling of the file share seems to work fine. The crawl log shows successes. However, when I try to search for keywords in the documents (PDF, .doc files) no results are found. (I've run the search as a domain administrator and as the user account that indexed the content.)Additionally, when I set up a Scope, and restrict the scope to just that content source, the document count is 0.I installed the Microsoft Filter Pack and restarted the search service. This didn't impact anything.Searching an HTTP content source works fine.Any ideas? I've seen issues with security trimming, but since I'm searching as the administrator, I wouldn't think that is the issue.Thanks.

- Did you do a full crawl of the content source after you installed the filter pack? Also for PDF documents, have you installed a PDF IFilter?

Yes, I did a full crawl after the install.I installed Acrobat Reader, which I thought had a IFilter.I haven't rebooted the server, I just restarted the service per the MS KB article. Do you think a reboot would matter?Thanks.- Many apologies guys, this was supposed to go to Off-Topic. Please move it there.A slight slip of the keyboard when selecting the forum to move to.
