Does anyone know if Expression Media One is compatible with Snow Leopard, or if Microsoft intends to make is so?  Baring EM1, with EM2 either work now, or in the future with Snow Leopard?

I've not noticed any problems between Snow Leopard and EM1.

The contextual menu is not working in 10.6 but I have started a thread about that. Not a major problem but irritating if you are used to go there.

    Hello photojourneyman,

We are testing now to see what issues exist on Snow Leopard with Expression Media 2. I'll post a list when we finish. In the meantime, I think it's safe to say that we won't bring out an update for V1, but may for V2.

    Thanks,

    Hello Anita,

Thank you for your response and candidness.  I have a been thinking of upgrading to Expression Media 2 for a while and I guess this will probably be the impetus.

Please do let me know if and when you post a list, re: Snow Leopard.  Although I have already purchased it -- I usually wait for a couple of months before putting it on my machine.  It gives Apple time to iron-out some of the bugs, and people like yourself to update if need be.

    Best,
    PhotoJourneyman

Snow Leopard was released earlier than expected. There are bugs with Snow Leopard and Expression Media 2. Raw files don't render with Manufacturer. Documents like HTML, Word docs, etc, don't display properly. I'm not sure if Microsoft are updating Expression Media anymore but I'd be interested to hear of any beta.

    Thanks for the response...

I have tried to order Expressions Media 2 through the university computer connection and two student / faculty / staff web sites, and was just informed Expression Media 2 has been discontinued.

So much for Microsoft buying-up a good thing!

    Best,
    Jack

Thank you Robert, for the response.  I probably will wait until January to put Snow Leopard on my Machine.

Meanwhile, I had tried to purchased Expression Media 2 from the university computer connection, and two online student / faulty / staff sites, and have been told the application has been discontinued.

So much for Microsoft buying-up  a good thing!

Oh for f--ks sake ... this is bad, really bad.

So is there a new replacement product in the making that may read .ivc files and take xMedias place or is this a dead end?

    Dudikowski,

Your *.ivc Catalogs are safe. Expression Media is still usable, as is iView MediaPro 3.1.3 from 4 years ago. Issues such as Snow Leopard can be worked around. The original iView app was designed to offer several methods of getting your data out and Expression Media inherits that ability.

Something I've said for years and still rings true today... Expression Media is *the* best DAM application for creatives. But others are catching up while Expression Media treads water.

The things is that in this competitive market "usable" just wont cut it. I want an application like this to develop and catch onto new developments. 4 years ago is like an eternity in web years.

We need some clear statements from MS about the future of this app. If none are given we will take the next opportunity to scan our discs with a better software. I know we have some interns coming in this autumn so they will do it in a week. We've used Extensis Portfolio in the past.

    Robert:

You are right about Expressions Media, (iView), being "the" best DAM application for creatives.  Why is it then that Microsoft will let something like EM slide by.  The iView name was well known by professionals and if it had been kept and marketed probably it probably would have continued to sell.  Microsoft changing the name made it seem as though they were trying to go 'mass-market," and sell it to amateurs and other's alike.  The fact that it was included in a version of Office reaffirms that in a hurry.

Microsoft should either sell it back to the iView folks, or update / upgrade it and do a strong marketing campaign to the professionals who have been using it, AND to the professionals out there who are not aware of it, or not aware of what it can do.  It is all in the marketing, and if I were in Microsoft's position I would rename it, (back to iView) and put out one ____ of a campaign -- and to continue to follow it up.

Microsoft has the money and the manpower to do it!

Expression 2 SP2 is glacially slow importing images from DVD. 3 + hours for a single DVD.

I don't know if this is the correct thread for my question, but I'm hoping you all might have an answer for me.  I am still using Iview Media Pro.  I had to switch everything over to a new MacBook this weekend after my iBook died a spectacular death.  I have Iview switched over and everything seems to be working correctly except that when I'm downloading the pictures from our recent trip Iview stops downloading after about 300 images.  What's up with this?  I have not tried to download more than 100 pictures at one time before so I don't know if this is an inherent problem with Iview or if this has something to do with Snow Leopard.

Simply open your iView catalog in Expression Media. The file format for catalogs has not changed.

    Hello Anita,

    Any news about this one?

I can't use EM2 anymore as I did already upgrade to Snow Leopard. Now I really got into a predicament.

    Thanks for your support!

    Hello Anita,

any news on this list and possible updates of EM2. I am planning to upgrade to SL soon. I am only waiting for 2 pieces of other software to become compatible - DXO and EM2. DXO will be out with a SL version end of November.

    Thanks for an update
