Expression Media currently does not display the raw files (.rwl) from either the old Leica DLux 3 or the new DLux 4. Is there a workaround for this? And will there be support at some point?

    Michael -

I have a Dlux3 and I can see my raw files, so I am not sure why you can not.  You do not say OS and such, but maybe it is related to quicktime version you are using.

I know some one with a Dlux4 and they are converting to dng with DNGconverter.  I just noticed that the Dlux4 will be supported using hte new version of ACR.

on the Mac, it's in the app package, so you have to control+click on the application. Pick Show package contents. Then look in contents\shared support\plugins\importers.

    Hi Michael,

The files we support depend on either the operating system or the manufacturer's SDK for import. The manufacturer's SDK can be used for Kodac, Canon, and Nikon. On Mac, supporting those files would have to be through the OS. In Windows, it would be through WIC and a manufacturer's codec. I can't really offer specific advice without knowing what platform you are on, but once the technologies we rely on support the format, we do, too.

I don't see anything on the web about a codec for Leica RAW formats. Does your camera allow shooting in DNG?

Finally, you can add the file extension to custom.txt to get the files into Expression Media, but that won't help with rendering. You would just see a generic icon.

The DLUX-4 creates  RAW files in a new format called RWL. Previous models, like the DLUX-3, used DNG. (Don't ask me why they bothered to make this change!)

Anita, you mentioned that one can edit the custom.txt file to get the files into Expression Media. I cannot find that file on my Mac. What's the equivalent file in OS X (assuming there is one). Even I cannot render the RAW files, I'd at least like to get them listed in my catalog.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I have the Panasonic LX3 (same as Digilux 4) and can not see my RAW-files in EM2 either. It works fine in Lightroom 2.5. I was told that since EM uses the OS to read RAW-files I would have to wait for OS X to support LX3/Digilux 4 before I can use it on those files.

Or are you saying that I can do something by looking at the plugins/importers and add a plugin?

Btw, I have the latest OS X. My Windows 7 computer shows all media files.

Try switching your Media Rendering preferences over from manufacturer to Apple.
