AnswerEPS and AI Imports

Since installing SP1, we are now able to import EPS and AI into Expression Media 2 and they are viewable as thumbnails although the AI files won't show a content thumbnail just an ap thumbnail.  However, we are unable to view them when they are clicked on.  We get the following message for EPS's

EPS  Cannot find media importer  [-8961]

Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Thanks

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I got together with a dev and program manager this morning, and on PC it just doesn't work. I'll file a bug on it, but the dev team is aware illustration file support is lacking, especially on the Windows side, and true support for AI files is on the list for future versions. On the Mac, we can render AI files only if PDF compatibility is set to On. If not, they fail on the Mac as well.

    Hi Mark,

I can repro, though I get a different error that says "Resource not found." I'm on Windows. Are you on Mac?

So far, I've talked to my co-lead here at Microsoft, and one of our testers. He's looking into it, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

    Hi again Mark,

Somewhere in the dim reaches of my mind, I think I remember that AI files have to be saved with a preview thumbnail, and that there isn't any true rendering for them, at least on Windows. I'm going to be going into the dev team's office this afternoon, so will discuss with them and get back to you for sure.

    Hi Anita

Ok, fair enough. What a shame. But many thanks for all your efforts.

I have been using Expression Media on Mac years before Microsoft bought iView Media from the British company. I just also updated the Win ver with SP2. Since MS ported it over to Windows and tied it to the "Expression" Brand, nothing has improved on both Win and Mac side. I hate to be a MS basher, but nothing further from the truth.

When can't innovate, bought them and sink the product into the w.c!

Can't support ai, eps, pdf! What a joke and what a shame!

Just did a test on all versions of eps.

No support for ai cs3 nor pdf saved as from it.

Support for all versions of eps ONLY if they were saved from a PC. I got tons of eps stock art that were created on Mac. My Mac ivcs have no problem. Am I going to open all these eps on PC and resave so EM SP2 can read them? What do you think?
