AnswerSynch Annotations Between Catalogs

I am still using IView, but interested in now upgrading to Expression Media.  One of the features I use is the ability to synchronize metadata & annotations between 2 different catalogs.  Iview had a "shareware" application called MetaSync to do this.  Does Expression Media have a feature to synchronize annotations for selected images that are duplicated between catalogs (example - one catalog is edited JPGS and the other catalog is original RAW files)?  Please advise.  Thank you.

    Hello Photojr,

    1. Keyword, annotate and add metadata to Image1.nef
    2. Select Image1.nef and go to Action>Sync Annotations and choose there "Export annotations to original files"
    3. Do what every you want to do with the nef file. As you have exported the annoations to the original they will automatically show up in the jpegs etc...

I use this approach and it works perfectly.

PS: If you do not sync your annotations they are just showing up in your catalog for the thumbnail image you see there. If you want to read more about it just check out the manual or the help function

Just to add to this a smidge...

Syncing annotations is also very good insurance against problems with your catalog. If anything happens to the catalog, you can aways rebuild the catalog from scratch without losing all that work.

Remember, catalogs are files. All files are subject to corruption.

    Hello Photojr

why don't you just synchronize all the metadata to the original file lets say in catalog 1. You then open catalog 2 and rebuild the pictures.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure I understand the answer provided.  Can you provide additional info?  I keep "Original RAW" archive, and then a separate "Derivative" archive, of images that I edit and convert to TIF or JPG format.  Each of the archvies has it's own "ivew archive" file with all the references, pointers, metadata, etc... For example, I have Image1.NEF in the "Original Raw" archive.  I edit this and save it as "Image1.JPG" in the "Derivative Archive".  Now I want all the keywords and other metadata associated with Image1.NEF to get copied to the new archive entry for Image1.JPG, which is in a different archive...  Can you explain how to do this?

    Thank you for your help...

    Photojr,

You may be "JRJohnson" on the DAMBook forum, in which case you'll already have seen it.  If not, and for anyone else...

There's a post there about this issue and there is a reply with information about a new version of MetaSync that works in both iView and xMedia 2.
