Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301
Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301
- Is Microsoft doing something about this issue or are we all going to be left in the dark as usual.
Obviously I'm not the only person experiencing this problem and it has NOTHING to do with licensing.

Your software is clearly at fault.

- Hi There,
The issue seems to be related to the licence store for Expression Studio held on your machine or it could do with a missing SL folder in the All Users profile directory.
1. If the SL folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\SL) in the All users profile is removed, Expression Media will roll back during subsequent installations. No error is displayed during the install, it just rolls back. this issue is affected by xDesign and XBlend. XWeb is unaffected. Re-create the folder and see if you still get the error;Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301
2. The other issue that causes this problem is the Licence Store used by the Xpression products. It could be that the Licence store is in a invalid state or contains obsolete licences.
Run the install with logging switched on and output the log here and I will see what I can come up with, to get you around this. No Promises, but where there is a will, there is a way. :o)
Regards
Bobby Habib - Hi Bobby, thanks for getting back to me (read your message on the other thread). Sorry I'd had a couple of days off.
I'm running XP Pro with SP3. I haven't had any previous version of Blend installed (ever - just Expression Web version 1 - Which I un-installed to keep things simple). Expression Web version 2 is working fine at the moment on the trial license.
It's just the other Expression products (that don't require a license - trial versions) that are not installing.
I can install again and provide a log if you like (I think I posted my log previously on the Blend forum - should still be there).
That's basically the top and bottom of it:Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301
At that point of the install I get an error and the installer rolls back. It does that with all the Expression Studio products with the exception of Expression Web.
If you know some way of "frigging" it, I'm all ears bro. It would be much appreciated. I can't reload my machine to get these products working no matter what, so I'm kind of REAL stuck at the moment man.
- Having what appears to be the exact same issue - this time with Expression Blend 3 Preview Trial. Ran the MSI directly with logging enabled. Deleted the C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Microsoft\SL to see if problem could be fixed. No luck.
- I'm having the same problem with Blend 2 Trial or Blend 3 March Preview :(
Impossible to install...
Anyone from MS looking into this issue?
Raf
- Any updates? I just started getting this problem as well with Blend 2 + 3 (started after my PC froze while I was using VS2008 and Blend..).
Extremely annoying as Blend is the only descent way of creating a proper UI. - I'm having the same problem, trying to install the trial version of Design. I really hope someone from Microsoft can give us some direction, soon.
Precar. - Same issue with Expression Blend 2 and 3 Preview. This is ridiculous.
I have the same problem.
I was able to install Expression Studio 2, but when I started any one of the programs, I was given a error message about licensing, then I uninstalled the product, but when I tried to install the installation didn't finished, had a fatal error, after looking at the log file I found:
1: InstallLicenses: ERROR: Failed to initialize SLDL. HRESULT: C004D301
1: InstallLicenses: ERROR: Failed to close SLDL. HRESULT: 80070057
again license error.
Criley002 I already have those features installed and didn't helped. The same problem happens when I tried to install the products individually.
With Windows 7 RC.
When I had Windows 7 Beta, ES2 worked fine.
