I have some ideas from a graphic designer visual angle for Expression Studio 5:

Expression Design 5: Selection tool, Eraser tool, Working and save CMYK color mode, Publish (export) to Flickr, Layer mask, more PSD effects support, Ai import: text
Expression Encoder 5: Publish (export) to Youtube/Facebook, more Silverlight template
Expression Web 5: More Add-Ins and Behaviors, HTML5 and CSS3 support, Social media add-ins buttons (Facebook, Youtube, Twitter connect), SuperPreview: Opera support

Does somebody else have an idea?

    1.     I would love to have better support for the CSS.

    2.     In addition, when you are working with the css file, and your Press F12 it goes immediately to the browser, and NOT the other way around, that you have to go the root file where the css file is linking, and then press F12.

    3.     Also, i it will be nice it Microsoft incorporate Spry Assets just like Dreamweaver has it, (accorditions, tabbed panel, and more easy validation toolkit.).

    4.     A Better Image Rollover Behavior, Just Like Dreamweaver.

    5.     More Add-ons Support.  (There are good plugins out there that cannot be used in expression web.)

    6. THAT WILL BE ALL - IT WILL BE THE PERFECT EDITOR TOOL FOR WEB DESIGNERS.

Does somebody else have an idea?

    Hi Michel-Velis!

    Your website is very cool!

Yes, these services are needed into the new Expression 5 version. Does somebody else have an idea?

    Hello.

    I have several suggestions too:

    1. Expression Encoder 5:
    1.1. More output formats.
1.2. Ability to change playback speed of particular pieces of video.
1.3. Effects (blur, glow, bloom, zoom, grayscale and ect. Post-processing video using pixel shaders (HLSL) and/or something else.)
1.4. Better crop tool (just select area with mouse and press Crop).
    1.5. Blending videos together.
1.6. Silverlight template designer. (Hard one, like VS LightSwitch designer)

    2. Expression Design 5:
2.1. Animation support. (Or birth of Expression Animator 5 or something like that)
2.2. 3D plane projection stuff like in WPF and Silverlight.
2.3. Better integration with Blend, Encoder and Web.
2.4. Better support for making plugins. (SDK)
2.5. Render-to-image postprocesing using HSLS or anything else.
2.6. 3d extrusion tool to make shapes more 3d.

    3. Expression Web 5:
    3.1. HTML5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Lame, I know.)
3.2. Anything to make website making easier, like less unexpected stuff, (Bugfixes?)

    4. Expression Blend 5:
4.1. Somehow allow to modify applications while they are running (atleast the UI).
4.2. Coding features from Visual Studio. (well... but VS has already gone WPF and has cool code editor, so why not kill Blend and give VS all that designer stuff? And options for the workspace: I'm more designer (VS becomes darkder) | I'm more programmer (VS normal))
4.3. Easier allign for rotaded or other way modified objects. (I'm a lover of precision, so that would be killer feature for me.)
4.4. HLSL pixel shader tools!!! (Critical one! Extremely needed!!!)

    5. Expression Studio 5:
5.1. Office 2010 theme. (ribbon and ect. just like in Office 2010.)
    5.2 Visual Studio 2010 theme.
P.S.: Visual Studio 2008 theme too. (No WPF, super-fast WinForms ____ yeh (Well you would need to use WPF element, anyway.)...)
5.3. Option to chose between: Expression, Visual Studio and Office 2010 styles.
5.4. Expression Manager 5. (Just a suggestion of program, with which developers AND designers AND somebody else could easily manage and review their tasks, schedules, work-status and ect. It sounds just like Microsoft Team Foundation stuff... Something simpler and better, eh?...)

    Well, I guess thats all.

    Thank you.

    Expression Design 5:

    SVG support.

Although Microsoft Expression Design is a very, very good competitor to Adobe Illustrator (at least concerning my own needs), without SVG support vector graphics is useless these days.

A silverlight control to insert an embedded Pivot instance (Pivot Live-Labs) - that would be super cool.

Just drag & drop such a SL control onto your web-page and link it to you deep-zoom image collection/cxml file - that would save a ton of work!!

    thx!

    Hello,

more Support for AI Import would be great, because I create Icon Collections with Illustrator and I wish to create XAML Files with Expression Design. I miss support for Shadow, Opacity, Transparency and Blend Modes by Import from AI. The imported pictures mostly look awful and I need many time, to make the Picture look like the Original. A batch processing tool for import would be also a great feature.

    Ciao

I wish Microsoft would change the goth, all-black interface with something more appealing like the blue ribbon interface of Office 2010 on either just Expression Web (the program I work with the most), or on all of the programs in the suite. Also the big red dot in my "All Programs" list is annoying, as well as the weird looking superpreview icon. This suite needs a definite facelift, and I think it should be sleeker, and easier to use as well.

    • It could also manage CSS better (I.e. Instead of just adding extra internal styles to every font, size, and color change you make, it could ask you how you would like to create the CSS with choices).
    • Also I would like a better way to check PHP syntax for errors.

Expression Studio could add some more features similar to those of Adobe, as well as try to get more users attracted to it :D

Expression Studio isn't as popular, so if more Adobe-like features are added and the user interface becomes simpler, it's going to be a hit.

    Any other ideas?

Expression Web 4 won't run on my computer. It locks ups after running very slowly. I am very worried about this because I have used this program for years in business and don't know how I would go about converting DWT sites to another software. Expression Web 3 runs like a clock on my machine. So I suggest you use that as the core for EW5.

I also recommend that you set up accessible support for failures of this software. I can't get help with this problem.

I am a new user of Expression (still using the trial version). I love it! For a time I was using the 2003 version of Script Editor for its speed and Word-like feel, but Expression has spell checking and a few other nice extras that I very much like. At present I have not yet found anything that I do not like about the program. I actually wake up in the mornings anxious to get to work using Expression. :)

Since I can type code much faster than tinkering with a visual editor, for myself I will likely rarely if ever use the design view. Almost all of the sites that I build are aimed for specific audiences, search engine rankings, and product reviews (oh yes you can bet that I will be writing a glowing review of Expression!). I currently have numerous sites and pages in the top-ten for their main keywords on all major search engines, and I don't see myself risking losing ranks by trying designing techniques that might be too different than what I am currently using.

For the past several weeks I have installed and examined numerous different editors for Windows and Linux, and at present I do not know of any that so much as approach the style, layout, speed, and usefulness of Expression. From what I understand, the only measurable difference between Pro and Ultimate is the added Blend in Ultimate, and since I am a little tight on funds at the moment, I plan to purchase a copy of Expression Pro.

Fortunately I currently have a gray theme preference - which Expression has delightfully satisfied - but my tastes will surely change in future years (as they have in the past). For version 5 I would like to see an option to alter the coloring of the header/menu/tool bars beyond what a Windows theme might allow (maybe like what the Media Player uses?). For my personal tastes, it is very important to me to be able to type for hours without my being distracted by the program's theme color.

Expression Web would really benefit from having compatibility with code-behind files as well as the Ajax Toolkit. Having intellisense for jquery would be great as well. I understand things are great for front end developers, but for most small shop web design companies they can't afford to go back and forth between Expression Web and Visual Studio in order to use code-behind files and the AJAX framework. I'm really surprised that code-behind files aren't supported already since that was one of the main features for going to asp.net when it was first released.

Expression Encoder 5 pro ( should have support for distributed encoding with clusters). and it also should support for other graphics card like ATI for increasing the performance of video encoding and reduce the time to encode. (Volunteer Computing for Distributed Encoding).

I would like to see a tool added to work with bit-mapped graphics including animated images for web based use.

Ideally suited to internet ads etc

    Expression Blend 5:

I would like to see expression blend 5 to look more like Adobe Flash. It would be great if this program could enable you to develop games and apps for mobile devices other than the windows phone.  It would also be nice if expression blend (and expression studio in total) would not be depending on Visual Studio for back-end programming. It would be better if it where a standalone program.

    Expression Design 5:

Should have more functions like Adobe Illustrator of CorelDRAW. In that case it would be a real competitor to these programs.

    Expression Web 5:

I really like the expression web versions. More than Dreamweaver to be honest. But there should be more PHP support. More code snippets for PHP, jQuery and Javascript. Rollover images should be easier. There also should be more Add-ins, for instance a jQuery roundabout image gallery. Or a image slideshow etc.

    Expression Studio 5:

There should be more language support then english an french, just like Adobe.

I would like to see a clone of Photoshop Elements added to Expression studio to better

I would like a stronger clone of CorelDraw/Illistrator with Expression Design

Better included manuals, in PDF or CHM or some electronic format, and put it on the distribution. Ideally one manual for each component.

Also a general manual on graphics arts using Expression Studio would benefit legions of novices towards better artistic skills.

That's really nice that there are people that want all those clone features added to expression studio. Unlike some people I'm looking for a development tool to replace Adobe Flash. Expression Blend looks the part, but is not there yet. Not by a long shot.

I have a great idea. Reduce the price of expression studio for the European market. Before ES 4 came out the suite costs about $500,-- for the US market and €500,-- for the European market (EW $150,-- US/€150,-- Europe). Now the European version of ES costs €759,-- while the US version costs $599,--. Why do we have to pay more than 150% of the US price. Is Microsoft adopting the same pricing policy as those conmen at Adobe.
  • Thursday, September 08, 2011 8:17 PM

Sadly software is very expensive to produce, that is why its costs what it does.

Tax policies etc are why the prices vary from the expected one based on exchange rates etc.

So, what you are trying to say is that microsoft did not take tax policies from European countries in account with the previous version of EW and ES? Giving their experience with other products they sell on the European market? And besides, the office suites costs about the same in Europe as they do in the US. The same goes for the Windows OS. So your explanation is kind of hard to believe.

    Ideas for Expression Encoder 5:

    • Please Add support for HW accelerated encoding using Direct Compute/OpenCL
    • Please Fix HW encoding quality bug
    • Please make this product more like video editing software with support for multiple video/audio tracks, video-audio track sync, this would be really cool and may seriously increase value of this software
    • Please Increase UI performance and make it more responsive during some resource-intensive operations
    • Please Fix memory bug, so I can merge more than 8 video files together instead of getting "out of memory error"

Thank you for great product, I'm really looking forward for new version.

I use OpenCL and OpenMP among other OPEN packages.

Video is a weak area that needs a dedicated tool to be able to focus better

    • Video
    • Photo
    • Paint
    • Draw

I would like to see support for pressure sensitive pointing devices, so a stylus can be considered.

These are what I need for a richer gaming site. Illy 9 has draw covered in my shop, photo is still paint for want of a tool. Video is the Live Movie maker and we all know how unsuitable that is.

Michel-Velis, you can't just press F12 and go to the browser because the idea of CSS is to link to multiple pages.

    Just some guidance

Expression Blend 5 and silverlight should get a platform on which it can create mobile applications other then only the windows phone 7. Furthermore it needs better support for creating silverlight games.

Implement full editor support for HTML5 and CSS3:

    • in Studio 4 Web editor, HTML5 and CSS3 tags were added, but not complete as transforms and other features failed in IE but available for all other popular browsers are excluded;
    • always when a selector is typed, no popup values appear (jump from coding to scrounge w3schools in a browser ?) DW offers permitted values popup;
    • often when a selector's value is entered and variables are prompted with a colon ":" no popup - expectation that Expression Web offers permitted selector value variables popup;
    • as noted above, complete HTML5 CSS3 coding popups.

Expression Encoder 5 should allows me to replace Fraps, if only it was done correctly.

The current version (4.0, SP2) is totally broken.

-You can't start video & audio recording at the same time with the same hotkeys/button.

-It fails to capture in fullscreen (1680*1050 bug).

-When recording in Windowed mode, the video framerate is terrible (5fps instead of the 30fps asked), but the game framerate is fine (60+ fps).

Better javascript coding/intellisense support; something similar in functionality to whats included in Visual Studio 2010. Currently I use both Visual Web Developer and EW4 simultaneously, as Visual Studio has really nice coding facilities for javascrip.
