Expression Studio Installed Without Office?
Expression Studio Installed Without Office?
- I just tried installing Expression Studio 2 on my laptop last week, which does not have anything MS related but Vista Ultimate, Visual Studio Pro 2008, and whatever Framework, DX, and such that are in the OS and Visual Studio. I got the error:
Error installing Expression Studio 2 (error# -2147024873).
Not sure why. I checked the system requirements and no direct mention of Office.
Can the full ESv2 be installed on a unit without MS Office?
Are there just Office Shared files that can be separately installed to allow this?
Thank you.

Visual Studio can cause this install failure as well. Try these steps.
1. Remove Visual Studio Pro
2. Perform the steps in this KB artilce 928218 to remove any Office 2007 shared files that may have been added during the install of Visual Studio. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928218, make sure you perform all the steps in the KB article.
3. Restart and try the install again.

- Hi Nighter,
You can install Studio or any one of the individual programs on a system that does not have Office on it. Expression Web will install the Office bits it requires.
Anna
http://blogs.msdn.com/anna - Then I wonder why I got the error. Will give it another shot then.
Christian. Italian. Warrior. BS-GSP major. Gamer. Borg. I am that hero! - The program just keeps failing at the removal of Encoder 2 now, regardless if I repair, uninstall, modify the installation.

Christian. Italian. Warrior. BS-GSP major. Gamer. Borg. I am that hero! - Still getting same error and tried many ways to fix. I think MS is going to start corrupting my laptop as it did to my main unit.
Any other ideas, Anna?
Oh, the OS is Windows Vista Ultimate with no Office applications on it.
Thank you.
Christian. Italian. Warrior. BS-GSP major. Gamer. Borg. I am that hero! - Been at it on two units (Vista and XP) without Office, or anything MS related other than the OS. Still getting same error.
Such a shame it is wanting to be so integrated with other stuff, no? Makes thing harder when removing them later.
If anyone has any other ideas about this, please do tell. I would like to get my copy working on my laptop since my main unit kicked it.
Thanks for any other ideas.
Mind bogger.
Christian. Italian. Warrior. BS-GSP major. Gamer. Borg. I am that hero! - Now I am getting a blanked error that just shows the name "xsetup.exe". Is this because of its need to be so integrated (Monopoly) or is this something else refusing to let me install Expression Web without Office 2007? Is there a GREAT Expression Web 2 cleanup utility that will REMOVE ALL FILES/REGISTRY entries the install WOULD HAVE installed normally? Removing all traces will probably give me a slim chance to try a reinstall. Oh, and no traces of a log file for the failed install. Thanks.

3. Restart and try the install again. - Oh boy oh boy. That sounds risky. It took me months to even get VS to work on a this laptop when it was brand, spanking new. This is what happens when a program integrates itself too much, in my "opinion".
Still, it seems to be my only option at the moment.
Thanks, griffinst. I will (gulp) give this a try, probably next week as I travel, and post back with the results.
If you do not see me reply back in two weeks, that means uninstalling VS corrupted Windows (and no, I am not going to just not post back in two weeks to pull legs as it is not my bit to tease). This is a smooth OS (except Vista is a memory hogger and can not even run the most basic of operations without THINKING, and of course, Expression).
Thank you for the suggestion.
Pray for me. I am going in.....

- This goes with the post above. There not seems to be an option to insert here, unless I am missing it. Something below this post says "path" but no buttons or anything. Let me see if I can post my log. Since I only have a limit of 6000, let me start somewhere near the end. This is after all the uninstall entries it adds, not that that even works since uninstalling it always fails, and I have to use third party rather its own uninstaller. Sigh.... integration.

I rather not use Revo Uninstaller (awesome freebie) and remove registry entries that need to stay, nor does the uninstaller, in my case, actually removes anything since when attempting to reinstall EW, the program thinks it is still there and halts.
Thanks.

Thank you. - Well, I am actually impressed. It took me some time to remove all of C++ and got Expression installed and then reinstalled Studio. Very impressed indeed. Thank you, griffinst.
The only downside, as it took me a long time to get VS working in the first place long ago, is now I can now longer make CPP files again, which is a major issues since I need it for C++ for school.
Expression works. Thank you!
Now, off again to repair VS again. :(

I thought I had access to VS boards but can not find.
