AnswerTrying to Decide which package or packages I may need.

Hi,  I am afraid that the Expressions Web site does not really clarify fully what Expression packages do what and where there is overlap.  For instance I can see that Expression web is used for building standards based web sites, but it seems to me at least that I can do that and more with Expressions Studio.  Then there is the question about the programming backend and how much the expression packages can help with that kind of stuff.

My simple websites use CSS to the extent that I could figure out how to do things.  I ended up using tables where I would have liked to use divs and classes because I could not get the site appearance to be consistent on different browsers.

I want to improve my simple websites and add more dynamic information ...  I'd like to use AJAX technology and peraps silverlight.

I want to build forms to capture readers names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.  I want to add an interface for contributions to the non-profit web sites that I work with.  I would like my sites to have blogs, and forums and to be able to generate HTML based newsletters.. I would buy the code if I could and I would hope to learn how to do more myself by reading the source code.

So which pieces help me get where I want to go?  Will Expressions Studio do what Expressions web can do and more? Or is it more focused on Silverlight?

I have Visual Studio 2005 but I am not very good with it and it seems that it may have been by passed because it can't handle  ASP.NET 3.5   Would Visual Studio 2008 be okay for the simple stuff?
Who sells canned blog, or forum, or email applications?

I know that not all these questions have to do with Expressions Studio, but they are related.

For your current site Expression Web can handle the CSS and has great controls.

To build forms, Expression Web can also hold ASP.NET controls which are available in your toolbox. Additionally, I use Expression Web myself to create HTML newsletters for My Own as well as my clients uses.

Everyone, I am sure, has uses for every program in Expression Studio.

I would break it down like this.

Expression Web for HTML / CSS
    Expression Design for Graphics
Expression Blend for Animation and Silverlight Applications
Expression Encoder for Encoding Video for use on the Web
Visual Studio 2008 for ASP.NET applications

Their are many blogs and forum software available from a Microsoft Expression point of view, I would check out www.microsoft.com/web.
