Using Expression Web 3 I cannot open a website on our Win Server 2008.

Situation: We copied a website from out old Win 2000 server, created with FrontPage, to the Win Server 2008. The Win 2008 server has installed on it MS .Net Framework 3.5 SP1, MS FrontPage Extensions 2002 for Windows Server 2008, and MS Silverlight among other programs. With Expression Web 3 on my system I cannot open this website on the Win Server 2008. When I attempt to open the site (using the "Edit live site now" option) I receive an "Unable to open site" message with 4 possible causes--the first one says the FP server extensions may not be installed.

If I create a virtual drive connection to the 2008 server, I can open the website that way, but I want to be able to "Edit live site now". Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have a template from template monster which has a main image on each page. I would like to replace the image with an swf so I can have a sort of slideshow with various pictures. I asked if this could be done and got the answer YES $300. I like to ask and learn rather than pay and remain in the dark. Can anyone suggest how I can do this? The image does not appear to be inside a div or I could delete & add the swf. I tried deleting and it makes my page layout move.

Expression Web 2 .aspx pages load fine in my development server but generate an error message when viewed after publishing. The error message is a generic "runtime error" about custom error pages, but my host gave me the error behind it. They believe the problem is because I use Expression Web 2 with .net 3.5 on my local computer but they only support .net 2.0. Here is the error message they supplied:

I know very little about web.config pages other than how to generate one in Expression Web 2 for .net 2.0 and 3.5, and that the file needs to be in the root folder. Is there some way to get aspx pages to work without the server installing .net 3.5 which they are not willing to do. They claim it is not stable.

SketchFlow player needs .NET to work?

I'm trying to share a WPF prototype with stakeholders - I packaged it as instructed and put it on removable storage. Only people who have .NET 3.5 installed on their machine can successfully run it. Is this a prerequisite for the SketchFlow player? Are there others? This seems like a huge constraint on who I can send the prototype to for feedback?

I strongly believe, video tutorial demos should be ther ein main navigation.. its very hard to findout these great videos...

Reason - any multimedia field is very practical stuffs, so video is the best way to understand it.. great that we have good video tutorials

Images problems

Everytime I upload images including the pre-made layouts to the site I am building I get red x's... I have tried several different things and nothing works. Only text shows up.

Since I started using FTP to publish my Frontpage website, I notice that there are odd characters appearing in the text (small boxes instead of spaces). This happens when I view the view the published site using either IE or Firefox. However, if I view my local site on either IE or Firefox there is no problem. I would appreciate some help with this.

Problem with My Pictures

When i get a animated picture in my email and right clink on it to save into my pictures only a still picture will save not the animation. But when a save a picture from say photobuckets to my pictures the animation is there. It use to work just find & I haven't changed anything

Navigatoin Menu

First, I don't know that much about coding. I was just thrown into managing my work's website, so what I know I've learned on my own.

That said, I like to use the easy tools in EW, such as the Navigation Menu. However, this tool does not work with the programs our webhosts use. My main reason for using the Menu tool was to easily create children links. I want a menu that expands, or has a new set of links appear in a "pop-up", when people click on, or hover over, certain links. Is there any way to do this without using the Menu tool?

An example of what I am trying to accomplish can be found at this site:

I would not use tabs, just a menu off to the left side, but assume the process would be about the same. I'm most interested in the menu that appears for "Tiger Gear" because some links on the menu that appears have others links that appear also (defined by the arrow on the right).

I hope I was clear enough and included everything you need to help me.

Upgrading from XP to Vista

I originally created my website offline using EW's DWT feature in an XP operating system. I have since gotten a new computer with Vista Home premium installed. Now my web page doesn't respond to all the commands in the script. For instance none of the Img alt="......" commands operate in Preview. I am also using both IE 8 and Firefox browsers. Any thoughts or suggestions.

I have joined EXPRESSION, was trying to upload my EXPRESSION WORK... but very sorry to say that.. i was not able to do.

I had created a web page (offline) that was functioning quite well in all web browsers. After installing IE 8 my images do not provide the "mouseover" alternate description on any of the browsers? Any thoughts on how to correct this issue? Thanks!

Transferring Snippets

I need to know how to move my snippets from Expression 2 into Expression 3 (without having to retype them all in like I did between Expression an Expression 2). I found the XML file but they seem to contain only the basic snippets, notthe many I have entered myself. Any help appreciated!!!

Publishing problems

A while back I created a website with FrontPage. It's a large site with over 300 pages and 2,000 images. Now I am moving it to Expression Web. I imported it to Expression Web 3 from a backup CD, then published it to my hard drive via FTP. Following that, I updated some of the pages with Expression Web, then attempted to publish it to my host's server via FTP (local to remote). The publishing process seemed to proceed OK and the small box with the revolving arrow appeared, but nothing appeared in the Status box at the bottom of the screen, and no Completed message ever appeared. Since it's a large site, I allowed the publishing process to proceed for about 3 hours, then finally gave up and canceled it. Next I checked the site online, and it appeared to be complete, included the various page updates I had made with Expression Web. So my questions are: (1) Why did no information appear in the Status box while the publishing process proceeded? And (2) Why did I never get a Completed message, and why did the box with the revolving arrow never closed? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated... DC (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)

When trying to follow the link (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=99610) to the German Expression Web Langauge Pack on page (http://expression.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc294853.aspx), it rediercts into Bing with a missing page.
How else can I replace the menues of the German version to English UI?

Background Sounds

I have Expression Web Version 1 Acedemic & I am not able to access Background Sounds through the General section of Page Properties. Do I need to activate a setting elsewhere within the system to give me access? Also I am unable to access the Formatting & Advanced sections of "Page Properties". All 3 sections open for me but do not allow me to add anything. Any help greatly appreciated.

I changed my display monitor to a HD quality (HDMI 1080p) ViewSonic. I set the resolution to 1920 x 1080 which changed the edit window in Expression Web. The 'ruler' on my index.shtml page is set to 1050 pixels, the width for the index page. The rest of the monitor window has wide blue bars on each side of the page. I cannot expand it (or remove the blue bars) so I can see the whole page. If I increase the index page width to 1200 pixels I must use the scroll right/left arrow to see all of the index page. Am I missing a simple step somewhere? How do I get rid of the blue bars?

When in "My Contributions" (or anywhere else where it's available), the "Stats" link brings up the Statistics page, but it now appears to be broken.

I believe this behavior started around the new MSDN rollout. Prior to that, the charts were working correctly in statistics.

Administrators: See this statistics page (which, unfortunately, will redirect anybody but me to the main page) for an example.

cannot find web server

I have tried many times to publish my site from EW2. Each time it seems to be working and then it hangs and I get the message "Cannot find a web server at ftp.deepcreekyachtclub-tn.org on port 21. Please check to make sure th web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly"

I find the EW2 help files pretty much useless, so I hope someone can explain this to me

I could understand if the vendors were at least selling products related to the Expression suite, but it's just people selling their legacy winforms utilities. Why even have a site moderator if this is the outcome? This stuff belongs on Craigslist, and it's obscuring the valuable community assets that actually belong here.

Resample image

I am trying to publish a website of members' photos at ipower.com using FTP. I see that some of my photos show up as over 150,000kb even though the actual file is only 260 X 180 px at 72 dpi in Photoshop. When I used FP, I could resample the image. EW2 help says to use the resample button in the picture toolbar to do that, but there is NO resample button in my picture toolbar, and I don't see any way to add it.

Want to merge 2 or more projects - how do I do this? Expression Blend 3

I have many images on my home phone, but the above mentioned images are the only ones that are not in position in my website buidling program but are in position when viewed in internet explorer. If all my other images are positioned appropriately in my web editor except the above mentioned, I am thinking that it is probaly something to do with the margins. in order to get the stated images above to be in place within my browser, I have to type in left:950, which is larger than my page and runs my images onto to my background which is clearly seen in my editor, but when viewed in a browser(IE), it looks great. I really do not know what to suspect except that it may be a margin issue, which I am not sure how to adjust. I have provided my coding below for anyone that can detect what is being done wrong, keep in mind that my page width is about 780.

Please help, I somehow manage to turn on a french keyboard from time to time and can not figure out what I do or how to turn it off?
It usually ends up changing my ?, ', etc. to french letters...
Does anyone know how to turn this on and then OFF?

Finding Simple Styles in Blend 3

Using the Blend 2 Design Tools at http://expression.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc294894.aspx I could not find Simple styles (ref: "Simple styles are available in the Asset Library, on the Controls tab, by clicking Simple Styles"). Apparently they are now under the "Styles" tab instead of "Controls". I am new to Blend and hope that I have found the right reference. Presumably a difference between Blend 2 & Blend 3

ew wont publish sites

I had Vista totaly crash and I had to get a replacement Computer I was luck enough to find one with Xp home on it I installed ew on it and it wont import or publish existing files why?
I am willing to try just about any thig any Ideas will help I desperatly need to update a web site I master for free for a quilting group.

Size problem with Internet Explorer

I have not published my site yet, but when I preview my pages in Chrome, Safari and Firefox, the page size is spot on, whereas in Explorer it previews about 10% bigger, which can cause some page bottom elements to missout without scrolling. I am sizing for a 1024x768 monitor by using 955x600. I could just reduce text, image, margin or padding sizes, but this would result in an uneccessary size reduction on the other browsers. Is this a common problem with Explorer or is it something I am missing in my design. I might add that I am using CSS & DWTs; & my compatabilty check against IE 7 finds no problems. Any advice would be appreciated

I have upload my site to the server but when i edit pages from the servers site pictures are missing. Also when I go to the site itself there is a page there that says I may a uploaded wrong. Can someone please help me with this?
