We have a large collection of WMV recordings from Live meeting presentations. I am not able to convert them using Media Encoder as these WMV are not playable in Silverlight.

Did any one successfully convert a Live meeting WMV file so that it can be used in Silverlight. Please post the profile that you used if you were successfull.

    Regards,

Live Meeting use the Screen capture codec, which the V2 Beta version did have some trouble with depending on the duration of the frames.  This should be fixed in the RTM version when it is available.

We're were having the same problem as the poster, so upgraded to Expression Encoder 2.0.1379.0.

We couldn't convert them before, but now we can.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Does anyone have profile settings that can encode Live meeting recordings into VC-1 so that the recordings can be played in Silverlight.

I tried various settings, but always Encoder errors out with "unknown error encoding file".

We have a very large collection of recording files from Live meeting and are not able to use these in SL Apps.

    Thanks,

V2 RTM has fixed all known bugs about encoding MSS1/2 content.  If you are using V2 beta or V1 please try upgrading to the shipped version.  If you are using v2, what is the error code in the activity tab?

0x813A0002 is the we hung error code.  Looks like you got a case that I haven't fixed yet.  This is more of a preprocessing bug so any setting will repo it.  If you are willing to give a pointer to the content I can look to see if I can find a work around.  You can use skydrive or some such way to give me the file if you are willing.

    Sure,

I have uploaded the wmv file on to my skydrive. Plase download it. After you download that, please post it here that you have downloaded it. So that I can remove it from my skydrive.

It didn't repo for me, but there where a few spots that it came close.  My guess is this is some sort of threading bug.  I'm using an 8 core Vista box with a ton of memory, so on a different machine I could get different results.  Would you be willing to give me your rough machine config so hopefully I can get a repo here.  Also do you know if it repos on all live meeting files or only some?

Thank you very much for your corroboration in investigating this issue.

    Brian,

Thanks for looking into this. Before I try other videos, can you please let us know the best profile settings that I can use with Encoder for live meeting recording conversions. I will try your suggested profile settings while trying to convert other video files. All of our video source dimentions are 704 X 528 and would like to keep it that way in the converted video.  All of our clients are banks, so I guess, they will at least have  a broadband type of connection.

I am not familier with the video setting at all, hense the request.

Also the output file size as suggested by the encoder is some where between 100 to 400 mb for files between 7 to 25mb. Is there any way to reduce this without compromising the quality of the video. I tried various settings, but could not bring that down.

Any help with the profile settings would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot for helping us get there.

For screen capture content, having the video size correct is the most important thing.  There is a screen capture preset, but the width/height will be to big for you.  I would se those to 704x528.  If the broadband speed isn't a huge concern swithing to Quality VBR or unconstrained VBR will give you best quality for a given file size.  Each allows the bitrate to be much higher where needed while keeping the overall bitrate lower.

For very low framerate video, like the ones you are using, the estimated file size may come out much larger then file.  The estimates are done assuming average content.

I have tried 2 other live meeting recordings (20MB and 8 MB) with the profile "Screen encoding". I have selected VBR, Video bitrate at 212 kbps and changed the screen size to 704X528. Also changed Audio to "WMA High Quality Audio". Both failed with the error code 0x813A0002.

My laptop configuration is as follows:

    Windows Vista Business
    Service Pack 1
    Ram 2.0 GB
    Inte(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz 1.59 GHz
    NVDIA GeForce FX Go5650
    32-bit Operating System

When I try encoder, I made sure a closed all other programs. When I exit encoderT after an error, some how it lingers in the list of processes. I had to manually kill the process. This does not happen when I simple load and exit or play a wmv file and exit.

I can send you the other files I tried if you want to take a look at them.

    Thanks,
    Venkat Polisetti
