Hi I have a full version Expression 3 suite installed on my computer when I use encoder to encode a project I select select MP4 as my output option, I get a message indicating that the functionality is only available in the full version and it asks me if I want to purchase the product online by way of a text link , I have the full version. What to do ?

Did you have the free version of the Encoder installed before installing the Suite?  Does the splash screen and About box show 'Expression Encoder 3 + IIS Smooth Streaming'?  Can you go Help --> About and reply with the Product ID from the About dialog?  Thanks

The 169 in the product ID is used for the Trial version.  Do you see 'Expression Encoder 3 + IIS Smooth Streaming' in the Splash screen and About box?  If not, you should uninstall it and reinstall from the Studio installer and let me know if this fixes it.  Thanks

I guess I was wrong in assuming that the version is as described over at Dreamspark you see I am a continuing education student and have an account with that website and the discription of software indicates that the software provided is indeed full versions... go figure right. I am stunned to learn of this trial ver. thing you mention, any ideas?

Unfortunately, due to the licensing costs, it's not possible for us to offer MP4 encoding in the Dreamspark SKU. Instead, you get our full free version (aka not a trial and will never time out). Please take a look at our FAQ for the differences between the two versions.

As for solutions, you can either buy a full version of Expression Studio, Expression Web or the standalone version of Expression Encoder (found here: http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Expression-Encoder-3/product/CE462F49/?WT.mc_id=encodersite). Please note that the page is in flux at the moment but will be fixed very soon.

Yea well I kind of figured all that already after the second reply, it's just that it is very disapointing after all the hoopla that is put forward by microsoft and DreamSpark causing you to think you are getting a... and read this very careful so that you and anybody else that reads this entry fully understands the meaning of FULL VERSION like stated at the website it does mention full versions of software in fact they make it a point, only to find out that there is some sort of twist ($$) to the real story.
