Need in-depth knowledge about encoder / video formats
Hi,
I want some reading materials about video encoders / video formats, whatever information is needed to understand the encoding techniques, if i want to encode a video in H.264 standards than what should be the encoding parameters needed and what their means.
Actually i have couple of WMV video files that are not running on SilverLight 3, I am using MS Expression Encoder SDK to convert it into H.264, i want to know the chemistry behind this why those files are not running and why i need to encode it.
In short i want to know about encoding standards in depth before working on encoding standards, like .mpg, mp3, wmv, avi and mp4.
I am lost and don't know where to start, i have read couple of article on H.264, VC1 but still blank.

- There are multiple books available, but I'll throw in Ben Waggoner's book as a suggestion. To say Ben is an expert in video compression would be an understatement. :) The second rev of his book is about to come out in the next month or so, and I would highly suggest you wait until it releases before purchasing it since the video encoding subject is very fluid and that book contains all the latest information about encoding techniques.
